One of the world’s largest contact lens manufacturers, Bausch + Lomb, has just announced the expansion of its specialty lens business as a result of its acquisition of Alden Optical Laboratories.
Alden Optical is a company manufacturing premium specialty contact lenses made in both soft and rigid gas permeable materials. According to a press release published by Bausch + Lomb in connection with the transaction, the takeover of Alden shows the company’s commitment to addressing serious eye conditions (such as keratoconus and irregular astigmatism) by supplying quality custom and specialty contact lenses of all possible types and designs.
After the acquisition, the company’s expanded specialty lens business (referred to as Bausch + Lomb Specialty Vision Products) will, apart from designing new contact lenses, provide education for eye care professionals interested in fitting specialty and custom lenses.
Mark McKenna, senior vice president and general manager for the Contact Lenses division of Bausch + Lomb, commented on the acquisition, stating that the companies have the same vision in meeting the needs of patients and practitioners and that together, they will be more effective in realising it.
