The latest market data, provided by research company GfK, confirm that demand for optical products, including contact lenses, keeps increasing.
As a whole, in the last quarter of 2013, the market grew by more than 6%, with sunglasses showing the highest growth rate (31%).
The value of the contact lens market rose by only 3%, which is mostly associated with the declining prices of most contact lenses, as the volume of contact lenses sold in different parts of the country is still increasing rapidly. The value of lens care products purchased by patients grew by less than 2%, which results from the constantly increasing popularity of daily disposable contact lenses. This trend, industry analysts are certain, will continue as daily disposables gradually replace two weekly and monthly contact lenses.
In their report, the research company stated that the prices of spectacle frames continue to increase, which shows that patients are more willing to buy premium models.
The presented data for optical products includes only opticians from mainland Great Britain.
