Extended wear contact lenses otherwise known as continuous wear contact lenses are designed for overnight, extended wear or continuous wear ranging from 1 to 6 nights or up to 30 days when made from silicone hydrogel.
The length of time continuous wear contact lenses are capable of depends largely on the lens type and on your opticians evaluation of your eyes tolerance.
Most extended wear contact lenses are approved to be worn without removal for up to 7 days. However, some lenses made from super-permeable silicone hydrogel are approved for up to 30 days of continuous wear! An additional advantage of silicon hydrogel is that it contains less water than traditional hydrogel. As a result, these continuous wear contact lenses are not as prone to dehydration while they're being worn.
