Electronic Reminder Increases Contact Lens Replacement Frequency

According to all recently conducted studies, a number of contact lens wearers fail to replace their lenses on time, significantly increasing the risk of eye infections and other serious complications. However, new data, presented at the 2012 British Contact Lens Association Clinical Conference, show that the ACUMINDER® Tool can improve compliance with lens replacement schedules.

The data were obtained by means of an online survey, in which 680 contact lens users took part. Before they began using the ACUMINDER® Tool, the users of two-week contact lenses wore them, on average, for 19.9 days. After using it, the number dropped to 14.7 days. 90% of the respondents stated that the service really helped them remember to replace their contact lenses with new ones.

The author of the study, Dr Janelle Routhier, said that compliance with recommended replacement and wearing schedules is vital to maintain eye health. She added that 66% of the respondents were of the opinion that the ACUMINDER® Tool positively affected their contact lens-related behaviour.
