According to Dr Crag D. Norman, dry eye is an immensely important issue and the biggest challenge associated with long-term contact lens wear, especially affecting older, presbyopic patients. Fortunately, the expert points out in one of his recent articles, there are several effective methods of dealing with the problem.
The first one that the expert mentions is trying new lens care products, such as Bausch + Lomb’s Biotrue, Abbot’s RevitaLens OcuTec or Alcon’s Opti-Free PureMoist. These products increase contact lens comfort by maintaining lens moisture all day long. Another suggestion that Dr Norman makes in his article is replacing one’s contact lenses more often, as fresh ones tend to be more comfortable and cause fewer dry eye symptoms. Those who wear rigid gas permeable lenses, the expert states, could consider switching to soft contacts.
In addition, Dr Norman advised his readers to blink more often when working on the computer or doing some near work and to make sure their contact lenses are always clean. If these guidelines are followed, the expert believes, presbyopic contact lens wearers should be free from dry eye symptoms.
