A new range of cosmetic contact lenses has been created by a Hollywood special effects artist.
The artist, Kevin Carter, prepares the lenses by himself, hand-painting each one of them with a special brush. The process of creating a set of such contact lenses takes him up to two days.
The lenses are quite expensive, as some of them cost almost £400 per pair, but – according to Carter’s customers – their uniqueness and quality make them worth the price.
Carter’s designs are often inspired by horror and fantasy films, which he is a huge fan of. Many of them create the look of demons, aliens and various monsters. He believes that artistic contact lenses can transform a person’s face and make it difficult to recognise, which is often a desirable result.
The artist uses hydrogel contact lenses with high water content, which are very comfortable and can be worn for many hours without any symptoms of eye irritation or tiredness. In addition, their excellent oxygen permeability means that developing an eye infection associated with contact lens wear is very low.
