Daily contact lenses are an extremely convenient option for most contact lens users. They require no care, as each time their wearers insert a fresh, sterile pair and enjoy perfect vision and superior comfort.
However, experts have been alarming that a number of patients break the fundamental rule and use their single-use lenses twice or even three times.
According to Mark Adams, a contact lens specialist, reusing daily contact lenses is very dangerous and should be discouraged. What is more, Adams believes that there is a need to educate the public about risks associated with reusing daily disposable contact lenses, especially because the number of contact lens infections is not decreasing despite the introduction of improved contact lens materials and designs.
Another thing that Adams warns against is reusing contact lens solutions, because it greatly increases the risk of infection and allergic shock to the cornea. Reusable contact lenses, the expert advises, should be soaked in fresh solution for at least six hours for disinfection to be effective.
