Victims of Floods in Pennsylvania Receive Free Contact Lenses

The recent floods that occurred in the state of Pennsylvania, USA, caused enormous damage, destroying many homes and businesses. Consequently, President Barack Obama issued a disaster declaration and many institutions as well as individuals started to help flood victims.

During the floods, the victims lost most of their belongings, which includes their daily essentials (e.g. food, clothes, medicines, glasses or contact lenses). To help them, numerous organisations and companies started to offer their products and services.

The Northeastern Eye Institute (NEI), for instance, offered to provide people who live in the areas affected by the floods with a two-month supply of daily contact lenses (or glasses if that is their choice).

According to Dr William Jordan, who is an ophthalmologist working for the NEI, losing one’s contact lenses or glasses can cause as many problems as losing one’s clothes, since life without them is extremely difficult for many people. Dr Jordan added that his family spent a lot of time in the area and that is why it is so important for him to be involved in helping flood victims
