Revolutionary Tonometer Shown at International Vision Expo & Conference

A tonometer that allows doctors to measure intraocular pressure without removing the patient’s contact lenses was presented at the International Vision Expo & Conference, Sands Las Vegas 2011.

Intraocular pressure measurement is extremely important for the early diagnosis and effective management of glaucoma, a potentially blinding disease.

Diaton Tonometer, in contrast to conventional tonometers, makes it possible to measure IOP without touching the patient’s cornea. This is important not only for contact lens users, who usually need to take their lenses out prior to examination, but also for individuals suffering from a wide variety of eye conditions (including chronic conjunctivitis, erosions, oedema). The new tonometer also facilitates IOP measurements in children.

According to experts, Diaton Tonometer minimises the risk of damaging the cornea and does not require sterilisation or anaesthesia. Its measurement range is 5-60 mmHg and a single exam conducted with the use of the device takes no longer than 3 seconds, which makes it a perfect tool to carry out mass screening programmes.

Diaton tonometer is translpalpebral and trans-scleral - allowing IOP readings be not influenced by corneal properties as well as contact lenses.  more details at http://www.tonometerdiaton.com
