As part of its guide to getting contact lenses, MailOnline has published a list of common mistakes made in connection with wearing contact lenses.
First of all, the article mentions sleeping in contact lenses, which can lead to numerous dangerous complications associated with infections, corneal scratching or depriving the eyes of a sufficient amount of oxygen.
Another thing that the article warns about is swimming in contact lenses. This is because it is very easy to lose lenses when you open your eyes in the water. Moreover, swimming in contact lenses can lead to serious infections because water in swimming pools is often full of bacteria and other microbes.
In addition, the article points out that trendy, lash-lengthening mascaras could cause problems for contact lens wearers, as the fibres that such mascaras contain in order to make eyelashes appear longer sometimes fall off and cause eye irritation and increase the risk of infection.
Among other things that all contact lens users should avoid, the article lists keeping lenses in dirty cases and swapping coloured contact lenses.
