Cooper Companies Inc. has announced that one of its units, CooperVision, has started to recall some lots of Avaira Toric contact lenses from the market. The reason for the recall action is the presence of a residue on the lenses.
According to the company, the problem was discovered after investigating several complaints regarding temporary blurred vision and some discomfort. Patients can easily check if their lenses are affected by visiting CooperVision’s website and entering the lot number found on the packaging. The shipments of Avaira lenses will soon be resumed, as the issue was a minor one and was easily resolved.
Avaira Toric contact lenses, Cooper Companies Inc. stated, are not the company’s major source of profit, as they contribute less than 1 per cent to the company’s revenues.
The lenses, designed for patients with astigmatism, are characterised by very high oxygen permeability, improved comfort thanks to CooperVision’s proprietary Aquaform technology and can be used for 1 – 2 weeks. Their soft, hydrophilic material includes a UV blocker.
