As the prevalence of vision problems such us myopia or astigmatism keeps rising, many athletes need to find appropriate vision correction. According to eye care experts, contact lenses are the best option for them, giving them a competitive advantage.
In their recent article, Liz Segre and Gary Heiting, OD, write that even those who find contact lenses not very comfortable should consider using them when engaging in sports activities. This is because contact lenses offer numerous advantages over eyeglasses.
First of all, they do not limit a person’s field of vision and greatly improve peripheral vision. Secondly, they do not fog up or get dirty, allowing their wearers to see clearly all the time. Thirdly, contact lenses provide much more stable vision, as they do not move like glasses when an athlete runs or jumps. In addition, since contact lenses do not break, the risk of an injury is lower. Finally, contact lenses offer much better compatibility with safety equipment, such as helmets or goggles.
According to the experts, daily contact lenses have an additional advantage – there is no need to take care of them, which is especially convenient for those who wear contact lenses only occasionally.
