The progress in the field of contact lenses has been very fast in recent years, which is why a number of scientists believe that the contact lenses of the future will have numerous functions in addition to vision correction. In fact, some of them can already measure intraocular pressure or glucose levels, warning their users when their values are out of the normal range.
Ian Pearson, an expert engineer and futurologist decided to add his views to the discussion, preparing a report touching on the subject. In his opinion, future contact lenses will allow their users to check emails without a computer or any other device.
Michio Kaku seems to agree with Pearson, stating that contact lenses will turn into internet-enabled devices, and a simple blink will be enough to go online. What is more, according to Kaku, they will be capable of real-time translation and providing information about every person their user sees.
Of course, all these predictions might turn out to be overly optimistic, but the pace of technological progress is so high that such optimism appears to be justified.
