Though it may sound like science fiction, a well informed source reported that the team of U.S. Navy Seals that carried out the attack on Osama Bin Laden’s lair used special contact lenses giving their users an ability to see in the dark just like night vision goggles.
The existence of such ‘cat vision’ contact lenses has been a subject of speculation for almost a decade. So far, the U.S. military has been declining to provide any information about them or to confirm any details revealed by the press.
Apart from the contact lenses, during the attack on the Al Qaeda facility, the soldiers used a great deal of sophisticated military equipment, including unmanned satellite drones and helmet cameras transmitting a live feed of the raid directly to the White House.
Night Vision devices have been in use since 1939, but only during the Vietnam War did they become effective enough to be used on a large scale. The technology is constantly developed and the armies of most countries use generation 3+ devices.
