Experts Urge to Follow All Manufacturers’ Instructions

The recent study reports revealed that many patients have problems maintaining their contact lenses properly and replacing them on time. In view of this fact, some experts decided to issue warnings related to the issue.

Vistakon’s director of medical affairs, Sheila Hickson-Curran, for instance, stated that the instructions that contact lens manufacturers place on product labels are very  important and failure to comply with them may lead to a number of well-documented complications, mainly eye infections (such as microbial keratitis) and irritation. Hickson-Curran also stressed the impact of proper hygiene on comfort, which is the first thing that is affected when a patient stops taking care of his or her lenses properly.

Dr Jeanette Romualdez-Oo, who works for Ciba Vision (the manufacturer of Air Optix Night & Day Aqua and other brands of contact lenses) as a consultant, also emphasised the importance of instructions provided by the producers of contact lenses and related products. In her opinion, their purpose is to allow patients to incorporate lenses effortlessly into their lives and not make them more difficult.
