Research shows that most contact lenses users have problems changing their contact lenses in accordance with their recommended replacement schedules, which is a serious issue often leading to eye infections or even corneal scarring due to deposits collecting on lens surface. What is interesting, the main reason for these problems is simple forgetfulness.
In view of these facts, Troy Flaxx, OD, decided to develop a special iPhone/iPad application, called Lenstoss, reminding contact lens users to buy new ones several days in advance. The application also shows how long a contact lens wearer has been using a particular set of lenses, allows the user to visit the manufacturer’s website and look for special offers and e-mail his or her eye doctor to inform them it is time to order new lenses and make an appointment.
Other features of the application include reminding the user about eye exams, providing them with links to specialist websites with information about contact lenses and lens care solutions.
