Air Optix, Ciba Vision’s latest development is being showcased in the Philippines.
Silicone hydrogel contact lenses often become dehydrated, which results from the fact that they are characterised by extremely high water content. This leads to lower moisture and oxygen transmissibility, and – as a consequence – a higher risk of eye irritation, redness and, in some cases, corneal swelling.
Ciba Vision stated that these problems do not affect the new family of lenses. According to Dr. Romeo Cayanan de la Cruz, clinical associate professor of the University of the Philippines’ College of Medicine, Air Optix lenses have more oxygen content than water and therefore dehydration is less likely to occur in them.
The Air Optix family of contact lenses consists of Air Optix Aqua (monthly disposable lenses), Air Optix Night & Day, Air Optix Night & Day Aqua (continuous wear lenses), Air Optix for Astigmatism (monthly toric lenses), Air Optix Aqua Multifocal (monthly lenses for presbyopic patients).
