Bausch and Lomb, a manufacturer of contact lenses and lens care products, has just announced its plans to invest €70 million in its plant located in Waterford, Ireland.
The company’s facility in Waterford was established over 30 years ago and became one of the largest employers in the south east of the country. Because of the recent economic crisis, there were fears that Bausch and Lomb would reduce employment (currently, the plant has 1,100 employees), but the announcement has ended all speculations.
The investment, according to the company’s CEO, Brent Saunders, involves a big extension and an increase in the workforce. In addition, approximately 100 new jobs will be generated in construction. However, the most important fact is that the employees of the plant do not have to worry about their posts in spite of the current economic situation in Ireland.
As a result of the investment, the Waterford plant will produce more contact lenses and related products for a number of markets.
