As it is illegal for people with sight problems to drive without vision correction, such drivers must wear either glasses or contact lenses if they want to avoid being fined. Traditionally, most drivers with refractive errors wore glasses, but eye care experts believe that contact lenses are a superior solution for them.
One advantage of contact lenses is that they are ‘always there’. Some drivers forget to take their glasses with them or misplace them and are then forced to drive without any vision correction. This does not happen with respect to contact lenses, which are usually inserted in the morning and removed before going to sleep.
In addition, contact lenses offer much better field of vision and depth perception, which – in combination with improved peripheral vision and the fact that they do not mist over – make driving much safer. Drivers wearing contact lenses simply see more, are able to react to the situation on the road faster and are more predictable to other drivers, which translates into lower risk of a car accident.
