People switching from glasses to contact lenses often talk about their problems resulting from the fact that it is difficult to get used to inserting a foreign object into one’s eyes. Some patients feel uncomfortable for a considerable period of time, while others enjoy the benefits of contact lenses straightaway.
According to experts, the time that is necessary to get accustomed to wearing contact lenses depends on several factors. First of all, a person’s sensitivity plays an important role. Doctors should always take that into consideration and closely watch patients who exhibit higher sensitivity and who are more prone to eye irritation. Secondly, the type of the contact lens is also significant. Patients find it easier to start wearing soft, silicone hydrogel lenses than rigid, gas permeable ones.
As far as age is concerned, there are no clear recommendations, apart from one: an individual should be mature enough to be able to take care of his or her lens appropriately.
