Irregular astigmatism can be treated with the use of contact lenses without any problems, UK News Reporter states, which is making them more and more popular in various age groups.
Irregular astigmatism differs from other forms of the condition in that it occurs when principal meridians of the eye are not perpendicular. As a result, the image that appears on the retina is out of focus, which requires optical correction. Numerous factors can cause the condition, including the appearance of a scar on the cornea, damage to the eye resulting from a surgical procedure or excessive pressure exerted on the eye.
Contact lenses are superior in the treatment of irregular astigmatism, because – unlike glasses – they allow their users to enjoy a full field of vision. In addition, contact lenses provide astigmatic patients with the same benefits as other individuals with vision problems, namely better self-image and freedom to engage in all kinds of sporting activities.
