The first months of the New Year have brought numerous reports on the state of the contact lenses market, proving that the popularity of contact lenses is still growing, in spite of the global economic crisis. Now, industry experts provide data on the number of teenagers wearing contact lenses.
In accordance with expectations, the number is increasing, confirming that the global trend observed in recent years is quite stable: more and more teenagers give up glasses in favour of contact lenses.
An eye surgeon, Dr Hitesh Ramanuj, commented that young people like the fact that they do not have to carry glasses around with them all the time, they can play sports whenever they want to, not worrying that might break them. In addition, most teenagers switching to contact lenses consider them a more attractive alternative with respect to the way they affect their appearance.
Dr Ramanuj added that contact lenses could be also worn by children, but ophthalmologists usually feel more comfortable prescribing them to teenagers, believing that they can take care of them appropriately without much supervision.
