BCLA Believes 2011 Will Be Difficult

According to a prediction made by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), 2011 will be a difficult year for the eye industry. However, the organisation believes that the contact lens market will continue to develop steadily in spite of that.

The president of the BCLA, Shelly Bansal, stated that the industry depends on the general state of the economy; if there is to be some improvement in the overall sales of eye care products, patients will have to feel that their spending power is not going to decrease in the near future. Furthermore, practitioners, if they want to be more successful, will need to embrace new products and persuade their patients to use them.

In addition, according to Simon Rodwell, secretary general of the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers, the contact lenses market will experience a period of intensified competition, resulting in price reductions, special offers and promotions, from which contact lens wearers will greatly benefit, as manufacturers and retailers will try hard to find new customers and keep the current ones.
