The recent hit vampire films, based on the novels written by Stephenie Meyer, have caused an unexpected increase in the popularity of the genre. However, Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen is not considered to be among the best vampire characters.
The Mirror has recently compiled a list of five greatest vampire films ever made. According to the newspaper, a series of films starring Christopher Lee, who played the character of Dracula, has a special place on the list. In the films, the actor had to wear special, red coloured contact lenses, giving him a chilling and disturbing appearance, almost as important as Lee’s impressive acting skills.
Lee’s performance and look influenced many other actors and directors. It is now hard to imagine a vampire without coloured contact lenses, which can be seen numerous films and television series, though the latest vampire saga, Twilight, redefined the vampire look, replacing red contact lenses with yellow ones. This way the creatures appear less demonic, but equally predatory. And scary.
