A well-known British journalist and news presenter, Kate Silverton, has recently stopped wearing glasses in favour of contact lenses. Oliver Goldsmith eyewear was a trademark look for her; she is said to own eighteen pairs of Goldsmith-designed eyeglasses. Many considered the look they gave her ‘bookish,’ which may well be the reason why she decided to try something new.
Silverton has already managed to surprise BBC viewers several times with her appearance. In 2006, for instance, she wore a green-and-yellow psychedelic-patterned blouse, about which some members of the TV audience complained. Consequently, she was compelled to apologise live on air.
The Essex-born journalist started working for BBC News in 2005, and since then has appeared on several news programmes, including BBC News 24, the 8pm News summary, BBC News at One. Currently, she is the deputy presenter of the BBC News at One and presents news on Mondays as well as when the main presenter cannot. There have been speculations about her future, but so far they have all turned out to be untrue.
