Todd Helton, a player for Colorado Rockies, has admitted to using contact lenses in order to boost his career. Interviewed by the Denver Post, he stated that he had problems seeing the ball during his games but was not sure what reason for his problem was, so he turned to a doctor for help.
Baseball is a sport which requires maximum concentration and perfect vision, as players have to hit a ball moving at a speed of 150 km/h or higher. It comes as no surprise then that baseball players, especially batters, often wear contact lenses to help them overcome their eyesight issues. Some of these lenses do more than correct refractive errors. They reduce glare that players have to deal with when playing in the sun and may even make some colours stand out, helping batters to focus on the ball and predict its path.
Meanwhile, Todd Helton is intensively practising in the hope his batting average will improve considerably in the nearest future.
